"AI coins" are one of the hottest topics in crypto right now. You've probably seen the headlines — a coin called Bittensor up hundreds of percent, influencers shouting about "the next 100x AI gem," endless promises of easy money.
Before you go anywhere near them, it helps to understand what they actually are. This guide explains it simply — no jargon, no hype.
An AI coin is a cryptocurrency connected to an artificial-intelligence project. The project might build tools for AI, provide computing power for AI, or try to decentralise AI so it isn't controlled by a few big companies. The coin is how the project raises money and (in theory) how its network runs.
That's the key thing to understand: an AI coin is not AI itself. It's a token tied to a project that works on AI. Whether that project succeeds — and whether the coin's price reflects anything real — is a completely separate question.
There are many more (Fetch/ASI, The Graph, Virtuals, Celestia and others), each with a different angle on "AI + blockchain."
AI coins move much more than Bitcoin or Ethereum. A 20–50% swing in a week is normal; some have fallen 80–90% from their highs. Why?
You don't need to avoid AI coins out of fear — but you do need to go in clear-headed. Before you ever consider one, you should be able to answer: What does this project actually do? Who's behind it? Is anyone really using it, or is it just a story? And crucially — am I buying because I understand it, or because I'm afraid of missing out?
Learning to answer those questions honestly is worth far more than any "signal" or hot tip. That's exactly what Halyo is built to teach.
